The Power of the 5-Day RESET
by Dr. Nancy Rahnama

This guided nutrition program can help you finally breakthrough plateaus, and — most importantly — feel great.
You’ve done everything you’ve been told to do by diet culture. You’ve cut out bread, you’ve cut out “wrong” fats and increased “right” fats. You’re working out daily, maybe even in that spin class again. And you’ve seen success but it’s short-lived, hitting that plateau over and over again.
If it does - it’s not your fault. The truth is, so much of what you’ve been told about nutrition is just flat out, scientifically wrong.
The reality is simple: our relationship with food is often what sets us up for failure. And the biggest mistake we make is thinking that what works for one will work for all.
I often have new patients come in and ask me, "Can I have beans? Can I have almond flour?" And I tell them - I have no idea what you can have.
In truth, I have no idea at first. You have a unique set of genetics; you're on medication that other people aren't on, you have a lifestyle that differentiates you from other people.
What works for one person might not work for you – It’s not like, “No you can't eat beans because beans are carbs. I don't know you, you could probably eat beans and be perfectly fine with it.
What we do in the clinic, is figure out what you can eat, through a combination of detailed lab work, food sensitivity testing, and personal history, to develop a combination of foods that works for you.
But not everyone can afford the time and financial commitment to discover this –
This is why I created the 5-Day RESET. The RESET says, let's start with a clean slate; let's take out the things that we know scientifically might be affecting your progress. Let's clear the canvas and then go from there. And that's the purpose of the 5-Day RESET - to clear the canvas and back to the basics.
The 5-Day RESET is that blank canvas. It’s your chance to rid your body of excess sugars, and cleanse the palate of your relationship with food. After 5 days, you’ll be on your way to your goals.
Below are the five most commonly asked questions I receive regarding the 5-Day RESET.
“How do I know if I need a RESET?”
Simply put, you need a reset if you aren’t seeing results, you’re snacking all day, bloated or irregular, or you “just can’t lose weight anymore”, it often comes down to your diet.
But many ‘diets’ are too strict to maintain (eg Atkins), or based on a one-size-fits-all approach (eg Keto).
The truth is that what’s working for one person may not work for you. Being told to stop eating this or that doesn’t acknowledge your unique metabolism. You have a unique set of genetics, your own lifestyle – and other factors that affect your metabolism.
So, the real question becomes, “What combination of foods supports my health and nutritional needs?”
To answer that - the 5-Day RESET provides easy-to-follow shopping lists, meal plans, healthy snack hacks, recipes, and the expert guidance you need to answer that question and crack the code for your unique metabolism.
“How is this different from a cleanse?”
Traditional “cleanses” (eg the Master Cleanse) focus on weight loss alone – often by extreme calorie restriction. Depriving your body of proper nutrition, often the result leaves you feeling tired, weak, and hungry. It doesn’t have to be this way. In fact, it should never be this way.
The complete nutrition approach offered in the 5-Day RESET provides you with the right amounts of protein, fats and carbs in each meal. Instead of restricting your body, you’re powering it with the proper nutrients it needs to work at its best. It also ensures you feel satisfied. After all, our relationship with food can only improve if we enjoy it again.
Emphasizing satiation instead of deprivation also helps you crave less so you are then able to more efficiently burn unhealthy fat stores. But fat loss is only one of the benefits of this guided weight loss plan.
More comprehensive than a cleanse, 5-Day RESET delivers the nutrition you need not just to optimize your metabolism and lose weight, but also to reset your microbiome for better gut health, balanced hormones, and healthy vitamin levels in your body.
“Am I going to be eating like a bunny rabbit?”
The short answer — of course not! Proper nutrition should always be satisfying.
Here is the food pyramid I base my nutritional advice on. It’s designed to increase the hormones that tell you you're full, while decreasing your hunger hormones, helping to activate your body’s fat-burning mode.
The foundation is high in fiber with plenty of leafy greens, followed by added colorful vegetables in combination with a healthy amount of protein for your body. Oils and plant-based fats help add satisfaction and taste, while fruit is nature's dessert. Complex carbs are not eliminated but are a small piece of the recommended diet.
Portion control is also important. As covered in the previous blog, have a portion of protein that equals the size of your entire hand in thickness and in length. The rest of the plate can be filled with vegetables with fats added as garnish, with dressing to enhance the flavor of the food while delivering the essentials your body needs.
After all, your unique lifestyle results in your own unique blend of gut bacteria (and the amount of repair you need from an accumulation of toxins from processed foods). You also often have glycogen stores from excess carbs, and that amount varies from person to person.
At the same time, it doesn’t deplete the stores of glycogen your body needs to function and stay healthy.
“How does it work and why is it 5 days?”
Five days is what it takes to reach the sweet spot. Five days allows you to change the contents of your gut, by eliminating processed foods and replace them with high-fiber, whole foods. Eating this way also allows you to balance your blood sugar hormones that impact your hunger, and tell your body to store fat.
The transformation works from the inside out to take you from fat storing to fat burning mode along with the energy, clarity and the results you’ll finally realize:
“Does the RESET give long-term results?”
Positive behaviors enforce positive behaviors and negative behaviors enforce negative behaviors. The 5-Day Reset gives you a solid foundation to cleanse your body and build the right healthy habits that you can carry on into the future.
By resetting your relationship with food, you can build a new, healthier relationship with food moving forward. Because this plan only requires five days to clean your canvas and learn the habits that you want to carry on into the future, it’s incredibly effective.
Once you’ve completed the RESET, you can start adding back the foods that you’ve eliminated and see how you do. If you had bloating before the RESET, and it cleared up, that’s a sign it was caused by something in your diet. As you add back foods, see how your body responds one by one until you discover which food was causing the discomfort.
This information leads to lifelong benefits as you continue to adopt your eating plan and develop healthier habits.
